CHRISTOPHER SOUTHGATE at the 50th anniversary of the death of T.S. Eliot:

Eliot died on January 4 1965. Southgate’s events included:

January 2015 – King’s College, London. A reading of the biographical poem, A Love and its Sounding, with Sandy Southgate (co-reader) and Harry Napier (cello). Followed by a seminar, ‘The unattended moment’ chaired by Russell Goulbourne, Dean of Humanities at KCL.

June 2015 – the TS Eliot Festival of the North, Padiham Unitarian Church, with Sandy Southgate (co-reader), followed by a discussion chaired by the Revd Jim Corrigan.

August 2015 – Little Gidding. A reading of the poem at the setting of the last poem of Four Quartets – with Sandy Southgate (co-reader), and again with Harry Napier’s wonderful cello improvisations.

September 26 2015 – for the 50th anniversary of the interment of Eliot’s ashes in St Michael’s Church, East Coker. Chris read the last section of A Love and its Sounding in front of the Eliot memorial tablet (see photograph).

December 2015 – celebratory visit to ‘Cats’!
